For UC Davis Students
Bring your horse to college with you.
Leaving a horse behind can be one of the hardest parts of coming to Davis. Russell Ranch offers the option to bring your horse with you, and we do everything we can to make the transition as easy as possible.
Many families and students have brought their horses and found that time at the barn is a welcome break and physical activity that complements your studies.
We offer a welcoming, supportive environment for all students and all riding disciplines. Lessons and outside trainers are available depending on your preferences.
Russell Ranch is just two miles west of campus on Russell Boulevard, connected by the city-maintained bike path that runs the entire way — no car needed to visit your horse.
We can point you to veterinary care, farrier services, and horse supply stores in the area. And when you can’t make it out — a trip home, finals, time out of town — custom services are available so your horse has continuous care.
We board horses for undergraduates, vet students, and UC faculty and staff, alongside owners who have been with us for decades. Every discipline is welcome, and everyone at the barn cares about the other horses and boarders.
- Two miles from campus, straight down the Russell Boulevard bike path
- Full care board and management — the owners live on site
- Covered and indoor arenas, so winter quarter doesn’t cost you your riding time
- Care services for when you’re away or out of town

Getting here
A straight ride west.
Follow it west for about two miles, past the edge of town and out into the fields.
We're on the northwest corner where Russell meets Pedrick Road — first drive past the intersection.
No car needed. If you'd rather drive or bring a trailer, directions and a map are on the contact page.
I keep my personal retired horse at Russell Ranch. I am an equine veterinarian living 400 miles away and feel very comfortable knowing that my 22 year old QH mare Blossom is in great hands and I don’t have to worry at all.

I boarded my horses here for over five years and have only good things to say. The feed is high quality, and the stalls are big and cleaned daily with fresh shavings provided as needed.
